IKEA Stenkol Charger Review

I have been using my Duracell CEF14 battery charger to charge my Panasonic EVOLTA and IKEA Ladda batteries for a long time. For some reason, my CEF14 charger started not to charge my IKEA batteries fully and decided to buy IKEA STENKOL charger. I’m using it for about 6 months and this time is enough to make IKEA Stenkol battery charger review.

IKEA Stenkol Overview

The IKEA Stenkol Battery Charger is designed to charge only AA and AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries. These batteries are most commonly used household devices like tooth brushes, flashlights, cameras, remote controls, and small toys. Notice that, it is not suitable for some other batteries, like 3.7V 18650 batteries. Stenkol is part of IKEA’s eco-friendly products behavior which aims to reduce disposable batteries. Great for earth! I like supporting these companies and products, too.

IKEA Stenkol is not the best battery charger, but it is a good combination of performance and price. If you are looking for an affordable but reliable battery charger, IKEA Stenkol is great choice!

Design and Features

IKEA Stenkol has a clear and simple design. It has four slots and you can use both AA and AAA NiMH batteries simultaneously in each slot. Good thing with this charger is that; You can charge each slot individually! In older chargers, usually you must charge batteries 2-pair or 4-pair but you can charge only one battery, in any slot which Stenkol! This is a big plus.

All slots have a two color led indicator to inform you about charging process.

Meanings of led indicators:

• Pulsing a White led Light: Battery is Charging normally
• Continuous White led Light: Charging Completed.
• Flashing Red led Light: Faulty battery or Slot.

IKEA Stenkol has a nice original green color and simple but elegant design. It is very easy to mount and unmount batteries to the charger slots.

According to IKEA, Stenkol is made of Polycarbonate plastic which is 50% recycled.

Charging Time

First of all, IKEA Stenkol is *not* a super fast charger. If you are looking for a charger that charges batteries in 1-2 hours, look for some thing else. Stenkol usually charges empty AA and AAA batteries for about 4-8 hours. This time depends on how many batteries you are charging. For example, if you are charging 4 AA batteries at a time, that takes about 8 hours, but if you are charging only 2 AAA batteries, it takes only 2-3 hours. As a safety feature, Stenkol stops charging when batteries are fully charged (LED gets white).

IKEA Stenkol Charger Summary

IKEA Stenkol a simple and reliable battery charger. It is made for what is intended! Charging time is a bit slow, but this not a problem for most people. I usually start charging at night, and it charges all the night and in the morning all my batteries are ready!

It is a IKEA classic: It has many safety features also. What I most liked with Stenkol is it can charge each battery individually. You can charge 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 batteries simultaneously. Simple LED indicators gives information about charging process in each slot. You can remove any batteries when fully charged, while others are still charging!
