Brita Marella XL Pros/Cons
What I most liked with Brita Marella XL is its simplicity. You just fill the Marella XL with tap water and get clear and quality water in a few minutes. You can think Brita Marella as a pitcher with water filter.
Design
Marella XL is one of the best-selling jugs of Brita. Reason is obvious: It has a perfect combination of design and functionality.
Marella XL is made of quality BPA free material. When you examine, it gives you quality impression. It is very easy to carry. Rounded handle helps carrying.
XL version is thicker than its Fridge version, but it has much more capacity. Marella XL can hold much more water than similar competitors. If you are not planning to store it at fridge door and capacity is more important for you, Marella XL is the best choice.
One of the best things with Marella jugs is its refill design. It has a perfect water refill design. You can easily refill jug as needed. By the way, notice that Brita Marella has a one-hand design. You can do all things with one hand.
Similar to other Brita jugs, Marella XL has a simple memo display on the lid. It just countdown from 4 weeks. As the time goes, percentage on the display decrease to zero percent. Looks like a high-tech gadget but actually a simple display. Does not count for water used, etc. Anyway, better than nothing!
Brita Marella XL Capacity
Brita Marella XL has 3.5 Liter capacity, but that doesn’t meant you will get 3.5L water each time you fill the jugs. In each full tap water refill, you get around 2.4 Liter of filtered water which is filtrated in less than 2 minutes. After your remove filtered water, remaining 1.1L will be filtrated.
3.5L liter of capacity is a superior feature. Must of the similar filter jugs has 2.4-2.8L capacity. For this reason 3.5L is fairly enough for daily clean water needs. You will not refill the jug frequently. This is important for and practical, especially, for big families.

Brita Marella Fridge 2.4L Review (Not Marella XL)
Brita Marella XL is a great water filter jug.
But there is a problem with it: It does not fit to fridge door!
Fortunately, there is a thinner version of Marella: Brita Marella Fridge water filter jug.
Brita Marella Fridge 2.4L is almost identical to Marella XL, except size and capacity.
Brita Marella Fridge size is 10.5L x 25.8W x 25.8H cm (which is 14.8L x 25.8W x 25.8H cm at Marella XL). It is thinner than XL version and perfectly fits to fridge door. If you are planning to use your jug as a cold-water storage at fridge, Brita Marella Fridge water filter jug is perfect choice for you.
Other difference of Fridge version from XL is its capacity. Brita Marella Fridge has a 2.4L capacity whereas Marella XL has 3.5L capacity. If you are not planning to use your filter jug as a cold water storage at fridge, Brita Marella XL water filter jug is a better choice, due to higher capacity.

Brita Marella Water Filter Memo Display
Brita pitcher filter has a “Memo” on lid that shows you percentage of filter usage and informs you to replace filter. You must change Brita cartridges every 4-weeks. Notice that LCD memo lid is working as countdown for 4-weeks. It doesn’t count how much water is filtered. For this reason, I think, if you feel the taste of filtered water started to change, you must change filter cartridge. Brita recommends you change Maxtra plus Brita water filter for every 100 liters of filtration or 4-weeks. Otherwise, if you don’t change cartridge for a long time, you get only regular tap water taste!

How to Reset Brita Marella Memo Display?
When you change your Brita water filter, you must also reset your LCD Memo Lid. LCD Memo Lid is actually a very simple LCD display showing the percentage of how much your water filter is used. It does not measure how much water is filtered. It is just a countdown for 4-weeks. It has % 100 75 50 25 labels and LCD level bars. When it reaches %25 level, actually you start to get bad tasted filtered water. When you get that bad/regular tap water taste, you should change your Water filter. After you changed water filter, resetting LCD Memo Display is very simple: Just push “Start” Button on the Memo Lid and your percentage level fills to %100. That much easy!
Although I did not meet but your LCD Memo Display battery might be finished or simply your LCD Display might be out of order. Solution is very simple: Order a new display from Amazon or nearest store. It is really cheap.
Brita Marella Water Filter Jug Review: Filtration

Birita Marella use Brita Maxtra Pro cartridges for water filtration. Brita MAXTRA PRO is made up of carbon coconut shells. Micro carbon pearls actively adsorb Chloride on the water and locks it to its pores. In addition to chloride, Brita Maxtra Pro effectively reduce limescale, lead, PFAS, and some pesticides. Brita Cartridges are the most important part of the Marella jug, and all the improvements and filtration is handled by this filter. Maxtra Pro Cartridges are 100 percent recyclable and environment friendly way of getting drinking water!

Although Brita Aluna and Marella are great water filter jugs, there are some major differences between Marella and Aluna, in terms of capacity and refill design. The most important difference is the capacity: Brita Aluna has a 2.4L capacity but Marella XL has a 3.5L capacity. If you have a large family or you have high clean water needs, Marella XL is a better choice for you.
If you want to put your jug directly to fridge door for cold water, Brita Aluna is a better choice. Otherwise, you must transfer Brita Marella XL’s clean water to a bottle and put it to fridge for cold water – Long way! 🙂
Another important difference between Brita Aluna and Marella is water refill design. You must completely remove Aluna’s lid to fill water. But it is much more easy at Marella XL, you don’t need to remove lid to refill. This a plus for Marella.
Both Aluna and Marella XL are produced by Brita and made up of quality BPA-Free material. Both of them are good choice. You must select Brita Aluna vs Marella according to your needs.
Compare Brita Marella vs Style
Both Brita Marella XL and Style XL are hight capacity filters. Their capacities are similar, but Style XL’s capacity is 100 ml more than Marella XL (3.5L vs 3.6L). On the other hand, capacity of bot jugs is fairly enough for daily use. For this reason, water capacity is not a big concern for preference.
Size and weight of both jugs are also similar, but there are some differences. In general, Brita Style XL is narrower but taller than Brita XL. For this reason, if you have limited space, Brita Style XL might be better for you.
Filter exchange reminders are completely different at Marella XL and Style XL. Marella XL have a memo lid and shows you percentage of filter usage. Actually, it is working time base and does not count actual used water amount. On the other hand, Brita Style XL have a new Led Smart Light based on time and volume measurements. It has a special mechanism to measure water volume and gives better results than Marella XL memo-lid.
Does Brita Marella Water Filter Jug Really Works?
Brita Marella water filter pitcher claims that, it converts regular tap water to great tasting water. But I’m not agree about the taste. Taste of filtered water is good but certainly not like a spring water. However, it definitely reduce limescale in tap water. You may see it from kettle and iron. Almost no limescale after Brita jug filter. As a result, that might prolong the life of appliances. I also notice that, tea and coffee gets softened and become more aromatic after Brita Marella. Also, if you are living in rural area or having hard water, Brita Marella might be good, easy and affordable alternative for you.
What is the Best Brita Water Pitcher?
There are many Brita pitcher on the market, like Brita Cool, Marella, Elemaris, Style, Aluna. Although they seem different in terms of view, capacity and material, all produce same quality water. Because all of them use same water filter cartridges. Since all the filtration is done by filter cartridges, shape or material of the pitcher is not so important for water quality. Brita jug filter comes with maxtra PRO cartridges. They last after 4 weeks. If you did not like taste of your filtered water, after 4 weeks you can change your filter and test other compatible filters. More or less all replacement cartridges are similar but some of them has additional features.

Brita Marella Water Filter Jug Summary
Brita Marella Water Filter Jugs are cheap and easy to use water filters for kitchen. When Brita filters used, tap water taste doesn’t change much but limescale decrease noticeably. That might prolong the life of appliances. Reduction of chloride and other heavy metals are also superb features.
Marella XL comes with Maxtra PRO filters. If your tap water taste is bad, (like mine) you may try another compatible Brita filter alternative. There might be better choice for you.
Brita Elemaris XL and Brita Aluna are also a good water filter jugs of Brita. They have better water measurement tools or practical usage. But Marella is more recent and has better functionality. Brita Marella is one of the best water filter pitchers of 2025, on the market.

Here, I must mention about one bad feature of Brita Marella: Changing the filter cartridge is a bit difficult. Removing the cartridge is very easy but, inserting the new filter cartridge and fixing it is a bit difficult. If you can’t fix it in a proper way, water goes directly to the filtered water area without filtration. You must remove and re-insert the cartridge to properly install.
In short, Brita Marella XL is an extremely easy to use water filter jug to get quality water. Just fill Brita jug filter and wait a few minutes and get highly purified water. Quick and environment friendly way of getting high quality water. Save the environment!

Hello, I’ve created a website about water purifiers and looking for editors and writers and thought you might be the right person. Will you send me an email if you are? Could be a paid job. I really enjoy your tone and the way you write… let me know either way please.
I just write what I used. I’m not an expert in this area. Thank you for your kind request.
Sincerely.
Yes, using (fitting) BWT fiters to Brita Marella XL a bit difficult but if you press a bit firmly it fits. Finised 6 pack of BWT filters at Birita Marella XL.
